happy little songs!

With all the blue I’ve felt lately, I need some happy little songs to pick me up, or at least make me smile for 3 minutes at a time. :) Here, I’ll share a mini-playlist with you!

1. Gym Class Heroes - Cupid’s Chokehold
I know this song is soooo cheesy, but that’s why I love it. If I had to choose her or the sun, I’d be one nocturnal son of a gun. hahaha

2. Elvis Presley - Burning Love
Some commercial on TV lately uses this song, and it gets stuck in my head. I’m just a hunk a hunk of burning love. How can you not love that??

3. Mika - Grace Kelly
If this doesn’t make you smile, your face is broken.

4. Justin Timberlake - Love Stoned
You know I had to throw JT in there. ;) Hot DAMN! haha

5. The Temptations - I Can’t Get Next To You
A little bit of old school for ya!

Download it here: happylittlesongs.zip :) Enjoy!

songs for leaving.

I made a “leaving” music mix. Here’s the playlist, everything from Marilyn Manson (I’m not kidding) to Jeff Buckley.

1. Marilyn Manson - Tainted Love
2. The Killers - For Reasons Unknown
3. Damien Rice - Rootless Tree
4. Soul Asylum - Misery
5. Annie Lennox - Why
6. Elton John - I Want Love
7. Modest Mouse - The World At Large
8. Counting Crows - A Long December
9. Beth Hart - L.A. Song
10. Shelby Lynne - Leavin’
11. Patty Griffin - Let Him Fly
12. Tori Amos - Landslide
13. Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah

And so you know, some of the songs do contain explicit lyrics (track 9 and especially track 3), so don’t listen to those if your ears are sensitive to that kind of thing. ;)

story of my life, in song.

ok, forget trying to go back to sleep. I had around 12 hours of sleep last night anyway, so I guess I’m finally waking up. So what do I do? Read blogs, of course. And now I present the story of my life, in song (via Out in the Woods):

I was browsing NPR Live Concert Series when I saw this piece about Jenny Lewis. I thought that name seemed familiar…and so did her face. I looked her up on imdb, and sure enough, I remember seeing her in this movie. Anyway, she’s a singer/songwriter/guitarist now, and I am totally obsessed with her music now. So obsessed, in fact, here’s my favorite song by her–take a listen!
Jenny Lewis - Happy

(Or even better, download her whole live show from NPR. It seriously rocks.)

confession #89.

I have a ridiculous, inexcusable, unexplainably huge geek crush on Clay Aiken. Yes, that Clay Aiken. I’m digging the songs from his new album.

He could totally be my boyfriend, even if the rumors are true and he is gay and ONLY if the thing with Ewan McGregor doesn’t work out. :!:

hold onto whatever you find.

SKB - On Lace Has anyone else upgraded to the latest version of iTunes? Mine is updating right now and it’s looking all kinds of spiffiness. Though, what is this thing called Gapless Playback? Must go read the FAQ.

As you can see, the Simple Knitted Bodice is done–to the start of the lace portion, that is! And of course…the first time I attempted to knit the lace panel, I goofed. I was two repeats in by the time I realized that whatever I was knitting was most definitely *not* the Chevron Lace pattern. *sigh* Soooo, I had to rip out all the lace and start over. I’m surprised at my boldness–I just took out my needle and pulled! I think my tinking skills are getting better. A year or so ago, I probably would not have known what to do and frogged the whole thing–gasp! But I got the repeat right, so I’m on that now. :)

Before I started knitting this, I wondered if I could get away with wearing it without a tank underneath. hehehe…not going to happen. This baby is cut LOW. And the lace is quite…holey? hehe. I can’t be indecent! Must find a tank. Maybe a black one, for contrast?

I stayed up way too late last night working on/fixing/reworking the SKB. I had John Mayer’s Continuum on repeat, and I think I listened to the CD 4 times. In a row. I am seriously infatuated with this CD. His music is very bluesy–more blues than pop for sure, so don’t be deceived by his first single (Waiting on the World to Change). I never thought I enjoyed blues, but apparently I do! Go buy this CD. (Or download…whichever.) It’s fannnnntastic.

Today at work was yucky, but I wish not to think about it. :) I’m going to eat and work on my SKB some more…and maybe even do some homework this evening. :D

in the form of a list.

- Have you seen it? Fall Knitty is up! I don’t see any patterns that I lovelovelove, but I can see myself knitting a few.

- I bought the latest knit.1 magazine today–did you know that Kara from season 2 of Project Runway is a knitter? There’s an article on her in there!

- John Mayer’s new CD, Continuum, released today. I bought it. Normally I’d just sap my music from Limewire, but for certain musicians, I’ll actually buy the CD. (And is it just me, or does John Mayer look particularly hot with longer hair? Just saying.) I’ve listened to the first 5 tracks so far, and I really, really like what I’ve heard.

- My first Socks that Rock order is in the mail! yayyyy! I should get it in 2 or 3 days :D

- I’m making good progress on my Simple Knitted Bodice. I’ve finished the top, separated the sleeves, and joined the body to work in the round. I’m starting the purl ridges now. Need to post an updated progress photo!

- New Lime & Violet episode! :D
