1. What’s your favorite tree house story?
This is sad to admit, but I’ve never had a tree house. I’ve never even climbed a tree! Ever. In my entire life. It’s so tragic.

2. If your life was a soap opera, what would it be called?
“Flashes of Brilliance, Moments of Stupidity.” lol, I was going through my archives earlier and came across that as a post title I’d used before. I’d say that describes my life perfectly.

3. If you change your name, does that take away all your past and give you a new start?
I used to think that a name was very important, but I don’t really feel that way anymore. Having changed my last name (when I got married) and then choosing not to change it back (after I got divorced) was an interesting decision, but ultimately came down to practicality and ease. That is, I can’t really be bothered to change it back because I don’t place much sentimental value on my last name anymore. It really has gotten to the point where it’s just…a name. That being said, if M and I ever make our relationship legal someday, I would probably change my name again. But at this point, I’m not putting too much weight on the name itself.

4. What’s worse being creepy or a dramatic liar?
Um…they’re both bad? Creepy people freak everyone else out, and liars aren’t good friends.

5. Have you ever stabbed anyone in the back?
Not that I can remember!

The weather is confusing. The calendar tells me it’s autumn. But one day it’s in the 60s (F) and rainy, while today it was in the 80s and sunny. I really just want it to be cooler–even winter!–so that I can wear more handknits.

I’ve been due for new work shoes because the black flats I’ve worn nearly every single workday all summer have started…taking on water?…when it rains. So I decided to give in and buy some Danskos. These are my first pair! They’re the Marcelle style in Cordovan Cabrio leather.

I’ve always heard good things about Danskos, but held off on buying any because they seemed rather pricey. These are definitely the most expensive shoes I’ve bought (I paid about $95 at Amazon and Zappos has them for $115). But I figure, if they really do last a long time and–more importantly–are truly comfortable, then they’re worth the price. I wore these to work on Friday and they were pretty comfortable. The backs don’t rub against my heels, which is a problem I sometimes have. Also, I like the straps because they’re adjustable and I can wear these with or without socks.

The only thing I noticed is that I probably should have worn these with socks for the first wearing because one of my toes rubbed against the side of the shoe all day (but not enough to leave the skin raw or make a blister). The shoes also have amazing arch support–normally, the shoes I buy are very flat and not cushioned but these have insane arch support.

Something I totally didn’t realize until I put the shoes on for the first time–they match our coffee table perfectly! Now, I just wish the weather would cool off again, so I can wear these with some handknit socks. oh, and before I forget–sizing. I wear a US 8.5 and I’m a size 39 EU in these. (I read a lot of reviews on Amazon and Zappos to get a good idea of how the sizes run, and I’m glad I did that because these fit very well.)

I almost hit a squirrel right after I exited the interstate this afternoon! I was still going kind of fast, and it just darted across–I hit the brakes and I could see it sort of freeze in fear and I felt badly because I thought I had hit it! But I drove past and looked in my mirror and it was gone, so phew, it got away!

oh, and earlier this morning I saw an accident a couple cars behind me on the interstate. There was a backup, and I guess someone wasn’t watching, so they hit the car in front of them, and I think that car might have hit the one in front of IT, so…yikes.

I’m currently testing the Time Machine feature on Leopard. I’m using my external hard drive as the backup source and it’s taking a while to copy all my files over. But apparently only the initial backup is the longest and subsequent backups will be speedy.

Lately I’ve been reading a lot. I’m trying to get in as much as I can before the summer semester starts (next month!). Recently I finished The Almost Moon by Alice Sebold, which has an awful rating on Amazon (and awful reviews basically everywhere else), but I thought it was an interesting read. Nevertheless, I don’t see myself re-reading it, so I’ve posted it for swap. Now I’m reading The Book Thief as part of the Ravelry Book Group’s April selection.

My Ravelry destash has gone really well! There are still some items available but as of right now, I have $124 in PayPal funds pending transfer to my checking account. woohoo! This will be put directly on my main credit card, which is *almost* paid off.

Re: that credit card–I made a huge mistake last week and accidentally deleted my credit card e-bill. Bank of America charged me a late fee AND took away my promotional 0% APR. I freaked out and almost cried, made a payment, and called them. I asked them to refund the late fee–which they did!–but the girl I talked to said she couldn’t refund the promo APR as well. She said it was the late fee or the APR, one or the other. Well, the next day I called back and spoke to someone else, and he reinstated my promo APR. yay! So, um, yeah, hence the emergency destash on Ravelry. That’ll teach me to pay attention to the things I’m about to delete. yikes.

I think the next thing I’ll do is sell that albatross I call my engagement ring–I really think it’s bad juju holding on to it for this long! Call me superstitious but I just need to get rid of it!

I contacted a local realtor and am in the process of scheduling an appointment. (!!!) I just want to sit down with someone and go over the basics and see if it’s even realistic to think about buying a house someday in the near future. I could totally get my hopes shot down, or I could find a great opportunity, like maybe a house that’s affordable since it’s a foreclosure or something…living with my parents continues to drive me batty, more on some days than others–but I really, really want to get my own house.

Work, by the way, SUCKS. ugh. My main job, mainly. I’m trying to stick it out until I finish my degree, but man–I am just hating it. hatehatehate. The library is going pretty well still though, so that’s a plus!

I decided recently that I’m going to try to stop eating red meat. (This basically means beef, as I don’t eat venison or anything like that.) I was going to try going vegetarian but that’s such a huge commitment and I don’t think I am prepared for it. So it has been 7 days and I haven’t had any beef. It’s been interesting! I’m doing it for health and partly ethical reasons, though I am still eating fish (mostly tuna) and some chicken. I’m hoping I can stick with it.

Earth Day is coming up and coinciding with that, I’ve become all enviro-conscious. I switched some of my personal products like shampoo and toothpaste to natural alternatives and I’m also working on reducing and reusing the amount of plastic I consume. I really don’t want this to just be a fad or something, so I’m working on one thing at a time and trying to see how I can make better choices as a consumer.

I’m going to try to get some knitting done tonight. What a bummer that the work week is about to start again. *sigh* I think the next holiday is Memorial Day next month…maybe I should take a vacation day or something. Goodness knows I need it!

A few random thoughts:

Magknits is gone. There’s a big huge crazyass thing over at Ravelry about it. It’s another trainwreck, a la Mystical Creation Yarns.

The weather was so nice today! I went out on lunch break and felt compelled to treat myself to some springtime yarn. Sock yarn + winding by hand + pretty weather =

I don’t have to work on Sunday; hence, I get a real two-day weekend. wee!

The final dregs of my sickness (yes, the sickness from one month ago is STILL lingering) are at long last departing my virus-ridden body. Good riddance, I hope you had the time of your life and all that. (Sorry for all the flowery words but I’m reading Alice Sebold currently. She likes those flowery words and they get stuck in my head like rice.)

I am making time to read and knit again, and this pleases me very much.
