Easy Ripple Afghan – my Ravelry project page
I finished my first crochet project! I’m so proud. This is a Christmas gift for M’s mom, who I think will love it and get a lot of use out of it. 
Now I want to make one for myself!
I am so stoked over the fact that I can now crochet, yay! hehe
Yarn is Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick in Fig (4 balls) & Cilantro (5 balls). Hook used is Size P (11.5 mm). Finished size is approx. 45″ W x 60″ L.

Now that I seem to have figured out the basics of crochet, I started the Easy Ripple Afghan for M’s mom. I’m hoping to have it finished before the holidays. I’ve done about a foot and a half so far.
I really like crochet…it works up so quickly, and is easy now that I know what I’m doing 
Yarn is Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick in Fig (purple) and Cilantro (green) on a size P (11.5 mm) hook.

On the heels of my round thing, today I learned how to make a granny square! Go me! The Stitch ‘n Bitch crochet book helped some, but it was really this video on Youtube that made it click for me.
I shall now go forth and conquer the world with my granny squares.

I finally got off my crafty-procrastinating bum and sat down to learn crochet. Stitch ‘n Bitch: The Happy Hooker has helped, along with NexStitch videos.
When I was younger, I wanted to crochet and tried, but couldn’t get much further past a foundation row. After reading and learning properly this week, turns out I wasn’t even wrapping the yarn over my hook the right way. oops. I think I’m straight now.
So I made this round thingy, but what I really want to make are granny squares. I have this delusion that I’ll catch on really quickly and be able to throw together an afghan for M’s mom for Christmas, but yeah that’s probably not going to happen. I’d like to try, though! I was thinking about knitting her something but I heard that crochet afghans work up more quickly. hmm.
Last night I frogged the round thingy–I’m trying not to become too emotionally attached to this crochet business, clearly–and cast on (WAIT! What’s the proper term for starting a crochet project? me = confused) a granny square. I got the first part started–the center?–and then got confused, darnit. I’m going to try again later today.
I like the feel of crochet–it took a while to get used to holding the yarn in my left hand, since I knit English, but having a hook is really handy.
