Friday Five for 4 September 2009:
1. What story did you love reading, as a child? I had an oversized, illustrated copy of The House That Jack Built that I loved. I read it so much, the spine kind of fell apart. My copy was slightly more cartoonish, but this is a nice illustrated version at Project Gutenberg.
2. What remains to be your all-time favorite book? All-time is tough, but I think it’s probably Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, only because I’ve read it so many times that I’ve lost count. The characters are very well-written (not flat at all), the plot is kind of fantastic at first (time travel), but it quickly doesn’t matter because the book is so engaging. I’ve followed the series over the years–in fact, the next book releases at the end of this month–but none of the other books in the series compare to the first, for me.
3. What book do you usually recommend to people? hmm…I don’t normally recommend things. Actually, I think I ask for recommendations more than I give them.
4. If you were a character in a book, who would you be? I tend to read depressing books, so even though they’re my favorites, I wouldn’t want to be any of them, lol! Maybe Jo March in Little Women.
5. If you could write a book, what would it be about? It would be a sad story, of course, probably about love and loss, because I am all emo like that. I haven’t worked on it in a long, long time, but I had started a “thing” a while back (I don’t really think it’s a book yet, more like a short story in progress) and it was pretty depressing, lol. Maybe I’ll dig around on my external hard drive and find that piece and work on it.

hehe, I think you like sad books like I like sad songs
after I saw her next book is about to come out, it reminded me I really need to read the next in the series! I liked Outlander – I read it sooo fast
that’s always a good sign.
my favorite is voyager. the scene when claire walks into t he printshopfor the first time is amazing.
kc: that would be awesome!
Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber, and Voyager are my favorites in the series. The others just don’t have the same feel for me.
minnie: I love, love, love that scene.
