I’ve done a bit of decorating this weekend. Finally got around to ironing my fabric and assembling/mounting my fabric tiles over the desk. I also added a second bookcase for my knitting books and some other books that didn’t fit on the first bookcase. Also added a lamp and chair for the desk, and moved my printer over to the bottom shelf of the new bookcase.

Before:

Room in Progress

And after:

Office & Yarn Room

I added a second bookcase on the left, a comfy satellite dish chair (that’s what I’m calling it, lol) and ottoman, and–squeal!–my fabric tiles above the desk.

Fabric Grid

I am so proud of my fabric tiles! The fabric is by Joel Dewberry and is from his Ginseng line. I took 12″ cork tiles and wrapped them in fabric, securing the fabric in the back with staples. The tiles can be used as bulletin boards, but they’re so pretty that I just don’t want to stick push pins in them! But they do have a function, if I wanted to use them that way.

New Desk Area & Bookcase

This is my new desk area–I love all the colors on the wall above the desk.

New Chair & Ottoman

The chair is pretty comfy, and it’s right under a window in the corner with my books. I love being around my books.

I think it looks pretty spiffy right now, and this has become my favorite room in the house. It is definitely the most colorful room, and is a haven from all the brownness of the living room (which, btw, we’re going to end up painting eventually). I will probably take the stuff that’s on top of my yarn cabinet and move it elsewhere because I want to put framed photos over the cabinet. I also have one more project planned for one of the other walls, but that’s going to take more time to prepare. :)

I love this room!

  1. I am insanely jealous of this room! I love the colors and the way you decorated it!

  2. I love your room! I’m thinking I need a cabinet just like that too. My life would be complete.

Love the fabric corkboard(s) and pretty blue walls. I wouldn’t want to leave that room either!

  3. Very lovely! I’m inspired. I’m trying to get my house in order and the office is next. I love the fabric squares over cork. What a great idea! I might have to do that in my classroom. :)

  4. Thanks! :)

  5. I love it! :) I love your EAP shelf, hehe :-D

  6. This space is _beautiful_!! I would loooove to have a space like this to work on stuff or read :)

  7. LOVE the yarn cabinet. Is that something currently available in the real world or an old family heirloom or something in between? I have a Martha Stewart (don’t laugh) bookcase with sliding glass doors that it looks like it would be perfect with this cabinet.
    Your room looks AMAZING!!!

  8. I absolutely love this room! I might use your fabric squares idea for my office. I’ll be working with K-5, and sticking notes on various colors could help me remember what’s going on in each grade.

  9. I really like that idea - fabric tiles. Now why didn’t I ever think of that.

I absolutely *LOVE* those dish chairs!!! I am so jealous, I’ve been wanting one forever!

  10. I’m totally in love with your room. It looks and feels super comfy. Soooooo jealouS!

  11. Beautiful! All the walls in my house are white so I’m always envious of those who have COLOR on their walls. I’m not good at color. When I win the lottery, I will hire an interior designer.

  12. No…*I* Love that room!

I have that same desk. You’ve given me an idea with the fabric tiles. I was trying to think of a way to add some color to the knitting room, and I think you’ve given me the answer. Can I steal your idea? PLEASE?

  13. Thanks for the comments! :)

Karen–the cabinet is actually a china cabinet that I bought at Target recently. It’s from their “Hudson” line, if you want to check it out!

    Nik–steal away, have fun!

  14. I totally just bookmarked this post - I lovelovelove the fabric squares - what a fabulous idea! It looks lovely!

  15. Thank you! :)

  16. I love, love, love your yarn cabinet. Your room has given me some good ideas for what I want to do with my second bedroom. Part of it has to be a guest bedroom, but I want the rest of it to be a knitting room. Thanks for the inspiration!

  17. See, my craft room is the WORST room in the apartment right now…everything that doesn’t have a place yet is still in there.

Ah well. Only six weeks, still don’t have all our furniture; with that in mind, guess I’m not doing so bad!

Oh, and the fabric tiles? I bought fabric to do the same thing! Though I think mine WILL be used for a bulletin board…
