Happy love day! I am not sentimental and didn’t buy a single card–not even for family–but I’m all for celebrating love. And that’s coming from a divorced-before-30 cynic. Also, I for one would much rather receive yarn than flowers or candy!

Have a great day!

In what you might consider a strange move, I am outing myself and posting one of my credit card balances. I’m doing this because A) I feel more accountable since I’m making it public, and B) it’s so exciting so look look look at the sidebar!

I put it over there so I am forced to look at it every time I blog. How obsessed is that. But look at the numbers get smaller! To you, this might be equivalent to watching paint dry, but to me this is a big huge gigantic deal! It’s even sweeter because I transferred this balance at 0% interest for 6 months, so I’m saving something like $175 in interest by doing it this way. Yes I am going without buying yarn and books for the time being, but look at the numbers! Holy crap am I finally learning financial responsibility?? Even better, here it is in terms even the math-challenged like me can understand:

I charged too much yarn and stuff on credit
+
not much income
+
divorce
=
I had to move back in with my parents aggghhh

versus…

Job
+
second job
+
budget
+
stop binging on yarn and books you goofball, buying things is NOT the solution to your emotional issues
=
light at the end of the tunnel is 2.3 months!! :)

Yeah, we’ll deal with credit card #2 when we get there but for now, this makes me SO stinking happy.

This is SO not one of those ranty blogs–well, except for the “I am so broke and have too much credit card debt and my parents are making me crazy” rants–but I digress. I’d like to keep it that way, actually, so I will just say that this year I’ve become quite interested in the Presidential race. I’m even planning on voting next week in Virginia’s primary, which I’ve never done before (voted in a primary, that is; I voted in the 2000 and 2004 Presidential elections).

Yesterday I was kind of glued to msnbc.com, and later to MSNBC on TV, as the polls closed and the results rolled in. I know who I am voting for next week, but I HATE all the business of politics–the personal attacks, the petty bickering, blah blah blah. I just want to know that I and the rest of the country will do better in the upcoming years than we have in the past eight.

At the moment, I’m at work enjoying a very quiet office–SO nice. I share office space with four other women, and it’s usually very noisy and annoying. Today two girls are out and at the moment the other two are at church since it’s Ash Wednesday, but they’re supposedly coming back later. It’s interesting when people who you’d least expect to be “religious” are the ones who go out and observe days like this, but whatever. It’s cool.

I hate the feeling that I have to be all politically correct and what not on here. Even though it’s my blog, I don’t want to offend anyone! Hence, not talking specifics about politics and such…I think most people read this for knitting content, and I guess that’s a safer topic? Unless you get into a debate of English vs. Continental styles maybe? ;) Also, I fully admit that I suck at debate, so I am very quiet about controversial topics in general. I frequently lurk the Big Issues Debate group over on Ravelry, but I’ve only posted there once and that didn’t really work, haha, so I just read the posts and click “agree” or “disagree” accordingly. I am amazed at the debate skills of others but I just don’t have the ability. I wish I did. It’s not that I don’t feel strongly about issues, but I just suck at expressing and defending them. Does that make sense?

All that being said…so…English or Continental?? Discuss!

Ok, this is a cool program. Since I am on a yarn buying diet (aka fast aka starvation aka DO NOT BUY MORE YARN!), I’m really excited about this! For 2008, Sonny & Shear just started a new program called Bust Your Stash. For every two pounds of yarn you use (what’s that in grams?), you’ll earn a 10% coupon to use at their store. Just send them the ball bands from the yarn you used up and there’s no limit to the number of coupons you can earn. How cool is that!

I’ve been stash busting since January and luckily, I save my ball bands so I am soooo cashing in on this one. :) I wonder when the coupons expire though, because technically I’m not allowing myself to buy more yarn till July…but still, what a great idea!
