thinking about hooking

Not THAT kind of hooking! oh boy, I don’t even want to think about the odd spam comments I’ll get from this post, haha!

Hooking as in CROCHET. This happens to me a lot–I’ll find a pattern on Ravelry or elsewhere online that is so pretty, only to look at the instructions and find that it’s crochet. *cries* I don’t know how to crochet! And barely have time to knit! Funnily, I do have a copy of Debbie Stoller’s The Happy Hooker that I bought…um…last summer maybe? But I haven’t made the time to learn. That, and my evil plan to win the Mega Millions lottery so that I can quit my jobs hasn’t quite come to fruition. Yet.

On the bright side, I just updated my Get Out of Credit Card Debt budget, and one of my two cards should be paid off in 3 months! eeeeee! VERY happy about that. :)

waffles, anyone?

This is what I did this weekend–I made a sock! Because I am a hermit and didn’t want to do ANYthing else. Actually, the weather reports were predicting a winter storm warning but we did not get any snow. Flurries briefly, but no winter storm! At any rate, I hunkered down and literally came out of my room no more than three times all day Saturday. And that was just to play with my dogs and eat a couple meals. Then I retreated to the knitting cave.

This pattern is fantastically simple and ridiculously quick when knit in sportweight yarn. However, I ran into some trouble at the gusset and had to tink/rip and fix it. It worked out, but I’m not sure if the pattern is unclear, or my brain is just wonkity. :)

Shouldn’t take too long to knit the mate!

house hunting?

So……just hypothetically…if, say, one has chucked the idea of moving into an apartment…and if, in about six months’ time, one were to consider looking for a starter home…where would one start? Find a realtor? Look in the paper?

As the debts are slowly but surely paid off, this will become the plan…and I think it’s the better plan. Any advice?

a long welcome home.

A long December and there's reason to believe

I went to the beach today. Even though it was very chilly, I’m so glad I went. It was the first time I had been to the beach since moving back to Virginia in March of 2007. Today when I first caught sight of the Atlantic, I got these really strange–but good–tingly feelings inside, as if I was seeing the ocean for the first time. It was kind of magical.

Now I really feel like I’ve come home.

evangeline in progress

Evangeline on the Wheel I finally updated Flickr! :D Here is my current WIP, Evangeline from the latest MagKnits. I looooove the cables on this–so easy and fast!

The yarn is Classic Elite Wool Bam Boo, which is a really interesting blend. It’s super duper soft and has great stitch definition, but I learned that it’s also easily stretched when I frogged the thumb several times (I just couldn’t get it right and finally settled on a slightly messy-looking thumb). The wool content does give it nice elasticity, but the bamboo content is very drapey so it’s an interesting mix. I don’t think I’ll have any issues with it stretching over time, as I went down one needle size than the pattern called for and the cables pull in quite a bit.

Anyway, I’ve cast on the second one and it’s almost half done. Maybe if the crazy weather would go back to being cold, I’ll actually get to wear these this winter! :)

knitting round-up, part ii.

Back in April, I posted a round-up of all the socks I had knit to date. I figured it would be a good idea to post all my FOs since then, along with thoughts about the yarns I used and the projects in general. :)

smooshy.

Dream in Color Smooshy This was my last yarn purchase before the Great Yarn (and Book) Fast of 2008. It’s Dream in Color Smooshy from Sonny & Shear, which offers super fast shipping, btw! The colorway is Some Summer Sky. And yes, it is for Jeanie. :)

I’ve been working on finishing up some projects this weekend. I had today off from the library, so I worked on my long-term project, my Waves Scarf. Yesterday I finished Yarn Harlot’s One Row Scarf, which I plan to wear and photograph this week. I also finished a pair of wristwarmers and finally wove in the ends on my Montego Bay scarf.

I know I have a serious case of cast-it-on, but next I plan to knit Evangeline with the Wool Bam Boo (Ravelry link) in my stash. I need some good glovey things for January! :)
