lace me up.

Cherry Leaf Shawl Progress The other day it occurred to me that Secret of the Stole starts ONE WEEK from today. This will be my first knitalong, and a lace one on top of it, and a *mystery* lace one on top of that!

So I kicked myself in the pants and picked up my Shoulder Shawl in Cherry Leaf Pattern from Victorian Lace Today. This week I did a couple repeats on it and I only have 4 left till I am done! I’m almost certain that I’ll leave the edging off because I like the way it looks right now, without it. Plus I want to have this done in time for the start of SotS, so I’m going to work on it this weekend and hopefully will finish soon. :)

I think knitting with a lifeline is SUCH a relief–I don’t stress over my stitches because I know that I can rip it out if I need to and won’t have to lose all my work! I’ve been moving up the lifeline at the start of a new repeat, which has worked well. One repeat at a time. I’m not worried too much about the forthcoming blocking process either, as I have a set of blocking wires all ready to be used!

ooh! And today I *finally* received another Knit Picks catalog! I hadn’t been getting any since I moved back to Virginia–6 MONTHS AGO. Can you believe I have been back that long? sheesh. It’s crazy…anyway, I guess KP put my new mailing address back on their distribution list when I ordered a couple books a few weeks ago, so now I’m getting the catalogs again. woohoo!

i am giving away yarn.

BUT you have to be a member of my Outlander Fans group on Ravelry to be eligible to win. (No, that’s not mean, it’s my group and yarn, darnit! haha)

This is me getting to the Yarn Stash Crisis Point at which I have found myself for months. I’ve been on the yarn diet for almost two months (!) and the stash seems to just…stay the same size. lol And it’s not like I’m not knitting! I knit nearly every day, but either I’m slow as molasses or the stash is secretly and mystically replenishing itself while I sleep.

At any rate, this is the quickest way for me to clear the stash somewhat. Maybe not the cleverest method, as I’m taking a loss money-wise, but at the same time I feel good about it. It’s sort of a random act of kindness thing, only not so random since it’s more of a contest. Whatever. :) I’m thinking of them as yarny gifts, ok?

Anyway, if the stash multiplication/mogwai effect continues, I might dig around again and put some yarn up for sale, but honestly, I just need a quick fix stash purge right now. And nothing makes people perk up and run like free yarn!

Besides, it has been a long week. Might as well pass on the yarny love to people who will appreciate it. :) (And in case you’re thinking it, no, I will not mind if you join the group solely for the purposes of entering the contest. The more the merrier!)

um…er…eek!

So I just got a call from the *other* library I applied to about a month ago–not the one that didn’t work out, the one was “dangerous” and “in the middle of nowhere,” as my parents ranted. This one is way closer, and guess what? They want to interview me for a *nights and weekends* position!

woohoo!

My interview is Tuesday morning–I’m kind of stunned! I didn’t think they would call me because it had been a while since I applied…and the other library job didn’t work out, so I sort of resigned myself to nixing the second job idea altogether. And don’t you know it, once I let go of that idea, RING RING! Opportunity is calling!

Let’s hear my dad diss this one now–no excuses. This library is no more than 15 minutes away from the house–my day job is a bit farther than that!–and the pay is almost exactly what I’m making right now in my day job. Duuuuuude.

If I get this second job, I’ll be even closer to getting out of debt and MOVING OUT. *hallelujah*

Send me some good vibes, pleeeeease! :)

i blame ravelry.

I ran across a thread on Ravelry about the Total Tote, which I just ordered from Joann. I used coupon code SEPA750, which is for 50% off the regular price of $39.99. So even though it’s on sale for $29.99, if you use the coupon code you get the bag for $20 plus shipping. SCORE!

I do love my Lexie Barnes bag for smaller projects, but I think this tote will be good for the bigger stuff. Besides, I got a good deal on it and tomorrow is payday so it’s ok. :)

i am a crazy fangirl!!

Update to my post about the TAPS appearance next month…I heard back from William & Mary, and it is indeed on October 23! At 7 PM! Tickets at 6! I’m so going!!! eeeeeee!

What’s really kooky is that I am SO tempted to take a half day off work (it’s a Tuesday) so that I can drive up to Williamsburg with HOURS to spare. There are only 50 tickets for the general public, after all (too bad I don’t go to school there, huh)…is that crazy? I cannot let this chance pass me by! Must go see my TAPS guys! It really does feel a little geeky in a Star Wars and Harry Potter fan kind of way, to go there way before it starts and ensure that I get a ticket…but I think I might…should I?!

a few things.

  • My PMS/stress-related backache that’s lasted for three days finally seems to be getting better. (ok, A) don’t you love that I started this post talking about menstrual issues? hi, I’m clearly a girl, and B) I’m not sure which it was–the girly stuff, or a LOT of recent stress. My self-diagnosis is a combo of both.) And the relief has only come after two days of Advil, Thermacare heat wraps, a switch to Aleve, and–gasp!–exercise. Probably my body’s just trying to kick me in the arse and telling me to move something.
  • Tomorrow is the season 3.5 premiere of Ghost Hunters! woooooo!
  • In the spirit of the new season, and the new book, and the upcoming appearance in Williamsburg…I started a Ghost Hunters Fans group on Ravelry. Because I wanted to. :)
  • That being said, I’ve had my nose stuck in their book the past two days that I haven’t knit a stitch in those two days! egads.
  • I’ve been signed up for the Secret of the Stole knitalong and it hasn’t even started yet. But I am very tempted to also join the Halloween Mystery Shawl KAL. The only downside, if you can call it that, is that you have to purchase the pattern for this (SotS is free). Plus I think one lace project is enough at one time for me. (ADD knitter here, you understand.) But the thing is, I actually HAVE red Zephyr laceweight in my stash RIGHT NOW, which is what the HMS calls for. What a stashbuster that would be! eek. I’m conflicted. What do you think? Should I just go for it? It starts this Saturday!

we will take over the world.
