Thanks for all the interesting questions! And here are the answers :)

Carole asked:
How are you feeling now, several months post-divorce?
oh boy, that’s a heavy question! My feelings are mixed. I am happier in the sense that I’m no longer in a marriage that just wasn’t working. But in another sense, I have a lot more adjustment to do still–debt, bills, job(s) maybe, and living back in my parents’ house is making me INSANE. Seriously. At this point, especially after this morning’s drama, I feel that it’s unhealthy for me to stay there much longer. (More about that in a separate post later.)

kc asked:
what song do you love to sing along to, but you are ashamed to admit it?? :)
hehe! I would have to say LoveStoned by Justin Timberlake…I know I’ve mentioned it before but that song is such a perfect combination of cheesy and good that it’s kind of embarrassing to admit that I like it, but there you go. :D

Anne asked:
How do you view life?
Another tough one! It’s hard to sum it up in a paragraph or so, but I see life as a long, hard road with moments of joy and pain along the way. And it’s up to each of us to decide which we’re going to allow to rule our lives: the joy or the pain. (Wow, maybe it’s not so tough to summarize after all!)

Christi asked:
Next to Outlander (duh), what is your next favorite book? Your favorite knitting pattern? (I know, that’s two)
ok, this one (two) is/are pretty easy! My all-time favorite book before I read Outlander is Where or When by Anita Shreve. It’s rather depressing in parts but I love her writing style and this is one of those books where the characters really stayed with me and still do, years after I’ve read (and reread and reread) the book. :) My favorite knitting pattern is definitely Clapotis. I’ve knit it four times to date, that says it all! :D

rachel m asked:
how are you doing with the yarn diet? have you been greatly tempted or is it going surprisingly easy?
This is really surprising to me because I thought I’d be suffering or something not buying yarn, but I’m not! I have found it very easy to resist the temptation. Not only am I saving a bit of money during this time but I’m also becoming more picky about the types of yarn I *will* buy once I’m off the diet. I used to just buy anything that was pretty, but now I’m becoming more selective and choosing specific yarn for specific projects. :) And hey, today marks 28 days yarn buying sober! woohoooo!

Tracey asked:
What’s your favourite thing to knit?
It’s definitely socks. While I tend to suffer from Second Sock Syndrome rather frequently–more often than I would like, in fact–socks are so fun to do and they really are the ultimate portable project. I can take knitting with me in the car, wherever I go, really–and that is such a comfort to me. Knitting really keeps me sane, and I need to be able to grab it at a moment’s notice and let it bring me back to reality. :)

Becca asked:
If you could pick any object / thing to represent you, what would it be and why?
Hopefully this isn’t terribly cliche, but I’m going to say a ball of yarn. Not just because it’s one of my favorite things in the world, but really–going back to my whole outlook on life that I mentioned earlier, a ball of yarn is this long, continuous strand with the potential to become ANYTHING. It could turn into socks or a hat or a scarf or even a cabled sweater with gorgeous Celtic knotwork! (sorry, sidetracked :D ) My point is that *I* feel like that ball of yarn at this point. This time in my life is a crucial time where I can settle for the mediocre, or I can go after what *I* want for once, not what is expected of me. But I’ve got to go DO it. No one is going to make my life happy, it’s got to be me. I’m now realizing I’m not really making the yarn analogy very clear but hopefully some of it makes sense. :)

Laura asked:
Can you tell us how you got your dogs - where/when/why, etc.!
Orion adopted me (hehe) in 2002, a couple months after I moved to New Mexico. He was my companion during the lonely times in my marriage, and then in 2004 Autumn adopted both of us. :) They’re both pound puppies so their heritage is a mystery, but I love them SO much and would never trade them for any other dogs. They’re really my babies. Now they’re here with me back home in Virginia, and I think they’re pretty happy in their new home, which makes me happy.

Thanks for all the questions–they really got me thinking!

  1. i know what you mean about being more picky! its been so long since i could just wantonly buy yarn, that now when i think about it i’m like OOOH i want that. and then i realize i don’t need it and gosh 23$ is a lot for yarn. so i just dream and knit what is in the stash, and who knows what i’ll buy when i can!

  2. I know, isn’t that weird? A couple months ago, I wouldn’t have thought twice about spending $25 on sock yarn…now I’m thinking that’s kind of pricey! Weird! :)

  3. good answers! you got some really deep questions there!

  4. I know! I was expecting things like “what’s your favorite yarn” or something, hehe. But they made my brain work. :)
