First, the fun! Last night I went to an SnB for the first time. I had a good time! After I figured out who the knitters were. I walked into the store, looked around, but I hadn’t met any of them before, and I didn’t see anyone with yarn/knitting at first…so I walked around the store once (in quite a confused state), then went to the magazine area, still trying to peek at the cafe area and see if anyone was knitting. I figured oh heck, I just need to WALK over there, so I sort of wandered over, and Tasha (from the L&V board!), bless her heart, saw me and waved me over! yay! I felt kind of silly, but originally I saw another group of girls sitting together at a different table and I thought they were the knitters at first…but they weren’t! Good thing I didn’t go over there first!

Anyway, excluding the fact that I was rather sleepy and didn’t talk much (I never talk much when I first meet people!), it was fun! I want to go back next week. :) All five of us were knitting socks, and I actually finished my second Zen String sock while I was there! I need to take a pic of it!

So, the not fun. /begin rant:

To make a quite long story short, I had to take a half-day off from work today. Due to the fact that my parents are uber-paranoid about my dogs and how my parents simply CANNOT leave the house without someone being here to watch the dogs. See, my mom has a doctor’s appointment today. It’s sort of far from our house–you have to drive through a tunnel to get there. And my mom NEVER drives by herself anymore. So of course, my dad has to take her.

Normally, this isn’t a problem; my parents’ dog stays in the house when they’re gone, and then my dogs stay in the backyard. They can’t all be in the house together because apparently my female, Autumn, thinks she is Cujo when she sees my parents’ dog. But anyway.

Today, however, it became a BIG problem because the temperature outside is something like 97 degrees with a heat index of 105. Now, a PERSON would melt outside in that after 10 minutes, much less a dog! Two dogs, even! And my parents were going to leave my dogs outside for at least 2 HOURS. Probably 3. um…no. This is unacceptable.

So there was this big to-do last night between my parents and me, and how once again, my dogs are so much “trouble” and blah blah blah. So this morning, I just told them that I would ask my boss if I could work a half day, at the risk of him saying no. (I don’t think my boss was entirely PLEASED that I asked, but he wasn’t angry. I didn’t dare tell him it was about my parents vs. my dogs, though. That would have sounded ridiculous.)

All of this mayhem just makes me that much more determined to get out of this house ASAP. In fact, remember all that talk about getting a second job? I applied for not one, but two jobs last night online. They’re both part-time, so we’ll see if anyone calls me about them.

But man, I was so pissed at my parents last night. I think it’s heartless to just say, oh we’ll leave OUR dog inside in the nicely air-conditioned house for hours at a time, but the OTHER dogs…we’ll just leave them outside. ??? When did my dogs become the red-headed stepchildren around here? geez!

/end rant

oh, and of course my dad called after I came home around 12:30, to see if the dogs were all ok and to say, “make sure you leave them inside! It’s too hot outside,” as if the whole thing were his idea. When just last night he was saying, just leave them outside. arggggg.

Moving on now! Speaking of the dogs, I have Autumn’s Bark Busters trainer coming to the house tonight to re-assess her behavior and generally check up on her. :) Orion is still doing well, but I might talk to the trainer about working with him too–I just cannot teach the boy to stay. He sits, but then he jumps up and does that wiggly butt dance thing, and will not sit still. It’s pretty funny, actually.

  1. I’m so glad you came and had fun! And the socks are gorgeous. I’m going to finish mine tonight (or maybe tomorrow). Sorry about the ‘rents, but I’m glad that you were able to get off to hang with your pups. At least they can give you some furry hugs.

  2. Thanks for having me! :) I’m glad too–they slept all afternoon inside, where they were comfy and safe in the air-conditioned house. yay!

  3. siiigh it’s so hard dealing with parents sometimes. it would not have been okay to leave your dogs outside! isn’t there someway to keep them shut in somewhere? like, your dogs in your room their dogs in another room? I know keeping them trapped in a little room isn’t too much better, but at least they would be seperated and cool!

but yay for snb! I still haven’t made it out to any of the ones around here, I keep meaning to, but something always comes up, or I forget like a dummy!

  4. dontcha just hate it when someone who is supposed to “get” you doesn’t? i cant seem to get it through to mark that joplin (the 12 year old cat) pissing & pooping where she damned well pleases is not acceptable, and that maybe we need to take her to the vet. in fact, this summer she’s spent most of her time hiding behind the sofa. she’s always been skittish, but this is bordering on paranoia. in fact, the only time she comes out during the day is when he comes home. and sits in my spot on the sofa. jealousy issues, much?

and did you see the excerpt for the new outlander book? very interesting!

  5. kc: we’ve tried that before, where mine would stay and sleep in my room and theirs would stay on the other side of the house…but it didn’t really work out because my room is quite small to begin with, plus we would always have to check and make sure to keep them separated…it was just such a hassle! All the more reason to get out of that house.

I was nervous to go to the SnB since I am such an anti-social weirdo, but I’m glad I went! :)

minnie: oh yes, that bothers me to no end! hmm, sounds like something to consult a vet about. I don’t know much about cats but that sounds like a behavioral issue type of thing!

oh yes, I read the excerpt as soon as I got the email alert–very interesting indeed!
