I’m *this* close to applying for a couple jobs at PETA. yes, PETA. The crazy people who picket outside Kentucky Fried Chicken and basically anyone/anything/any organization that uses fur, animal meat, and basically any animal products. :???: Their headquarters is in my area, and I’m all about animal rights…but I’m not THAT radical in my views.

I’m not a vegetarian or a vegan. I happen to like meat! But I also love animals (in particular, dogs). I don’t know. Do you think they’ll even consider me if I’m not 100% behind their views? Plus, I’m not sure I’d be comfortable working for an organization that calls people killers just because they eat chicken, or something, you know?

I need a job, but this is getting a little ridiculous.

  1. It doesn’t hurt to try? Unless maybe they picket you in the lunch room for having a BLT… It would be an interesting experience for sure!

  2. LOL that would be horrible, yet somewhat hilarious at the same time! I wonder if they would snatch my sandwich from my hands and throw tofu at me, or something?? :D

  3. i will tell you this. they support food terrorists. i was reading anthony bourdain, and he wrote about a small french restauranteur in california who used foie gras. granted, it’s not the friendliest of products, but the geese & ducks are not actively hurt until they are humanely butchered. he was attacked. his store was covered in vile graffiti. they threw acid on his car. they even videotaped his family in their front yard, and sent it to him with a note that said “we know where you live.”

and while PETA is uncomforable with this treatment, they are not stepping back from these eco-terrorists, either.

    i don’t think they’d tolerate you.

    just saying.

  4. That’s exactly the type of nightmarishness I’m scared of! sigh. :???:

  5. Hey, this is just a suggestion and maybe you’re doing this already, but when I was looking for a job (all of last year), I started applying just as dilligently for part-time positions as well. I had to decide which I’d prefer - full-time in retail or food service or part-time in an office. I chose the latter, and that what’s I’m working now, and my boss (then interviewer) agreed that there would be opportunities to expand my hours later on.

And yeah, PETA is scary, yo.

  6. Just another thought about jobhunting too… have you thought about the temp-to-hire thing? A lot of companies are doing it these days (more do it than don’t) and I am all for it (that’s how I got my job 3 1/2 years ago and my hubby did the same), if you find a good agency give it a try. Not only do they get to try you out, but you get to try them out too. JMHO…

  7. chickadee: that’s an excellent suggestion! I’ll be sure to look out for PT stuff as well. :) Thanks!

Amy O’: I noticed a lot of temp listings…any tips on how to tell a good agency from a not-so-good?
