Today I got a Patternworks catalog in the mail. I’m not sure why, as I’ve never ordered from them and I don’t think I ever signed up for mailings. Maybe they’re affiliated with Knit Picks? At any rate, I am trying very, very, very hard not to buy all the pretty Koigu. Never mind that I have some in my stash right now–there are just so many pretty colors!
This weekend is my first homework-less weekend since January and I am so excited. What to do with myself? The husband is going out of town on another one of his excursions, and he won’t be back till Sunday. I will definitely get some knitting done.
And I’m wondering if I should put my reading of 1984 on hold in order to read The Da Vinci Code, which I finally bought when the mass-market edition was published. There is so much hype surrounding this novel and I want to see if it’s really as amazing as most people say. Plus, I want to read the novel before seeing the film.
Speaking of films, we watched Rumor Has It the other night. yuck. Shirley MacLaine was the best (and perhaps only good) part of the movie. Otherwise, the comedy just was not there. Then it tried to go into these tender moments, and I was just confused. Plus, I think I have decided I don’t like Jennifer Aniston much as an actress.
While the husband is away, I could always finish watching my latest Netflix rental, Brokeback Mountain. Again, I wanted to see if the hype has any basis in fact. I’ve watched about the first half of the movie so far, but I’m not really into the story yet. I knew I couldn’t watch it with D because he would freak out at all the gayness, I’m sure. So I know well enough to leave him alone about that.
The summer session starts on May 30, so I’d better enjoy this freedom while it lasts!

“he would freak out at all the gayness” haha – doesn’t that sum up most of the guys I know in a phrase!
Have a fun weekend a-knittin’ and a-movie watchin’ – definitely enjoy it before summer session!
I’m serious, I could not pay him to watch BM with me. Not that I was dying to see it anyway, but he just would not go for it!
I know the next few weeks will fly by, but I will try to finish at least one book before school starts again!
the da vinci code’s previews scare me! it looks weird. i saw brokeback mountain the day it came out here.. it was alright. i saw nothing special about it.. just another movie. i must say, *the* scene was a bit shocking, haha
aren’t homework-free weekends awesome? i’m in the same boat, i have no clue what to do with myself!
I agree, the previews are kind of creepy. I didn’t know about those parts until I saw the previews–I knew the book was a thriller, but not like that!
I also agree about the scene, lol!
oh man… the da vinci code. i read both “angels and demons” and “da vinci code,” and honestly hated the latter. and of course i’ll watch it after it comes out on dvd so i can say that i’ve watched it. i need to see brokeback as well to see if it lives up to the hype. i didn’t think too highly of crash, as it’s so hollywood. ha, i’m a movie snob!
I did like Crash, though I wouldn’t watch it a second time. It put me through the emotional wringer!
It’s always hard for me to watch movies or read books that have so much hype surrounding them because other people’s opinions are always in the back of my mind.
Knitting and movies… how I wish I could be doing that this weekend. Will you post a mini review once you’ve finished watching BM? Not sure if I want to Netflix it or not.
Patternworks… very dangerous for me to have in the house.
I will definitely post my thoughts on BM
I didn’t get to watch it this weekend, so hopefully sometime this week I’ll finish it.
